About the role

This is a rare and outstanding opportunity for someone to gain valuable experience working in the highly desired regulated industry of Financial Services & Insurance and with skilled and experienced teammates.

As a growing, fast-moving insurtech, you’ll also experience working in an environment that exposes you to technology and situations you may not normally have the opportunity to, at this stage in your career.

As our Junior Engineer, your work will focus on first-tier developments, changes and defect resolution. You’ll be given regular opportunities to investigate, find and recommend fixes or where appropriate, make those fixes directly.

You’ll work closely with and be supported by our Senior Engineers to investigate issues of a more advanced technical nature - helping to build your own knowledge and experience allowing you to handle any similar examples independently.

Overview of responsibilities

  • Be the first line of response to investigate incidents and major issues.

  • Work directly with our Pricing and Underwriting teams to update underwriting and pricing rule changes.

  • Working with multiple stakeholders and engineers, you’ll help to deliver complex changes, such as changes to our real-time fraud detection platform.

  • Work closely with Peppercorn's Service Delivery Manager to provide internal support for queries or changes and these are handled in a timely, efficient manner.

  • Contribute to the ongoing security of systems and infrastructure to prevent harm to our internal users and external customers.

About You

To be able to do well in this role, we expect that you will have:

  • Experience working with C#, Java, Python or other programming languages.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • A passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies, allowing you to bring new ideas to discussions, and sparking debate about established methods.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to adapt your style to suit the audience.

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as the work dictates, seeking to understand the work of other teams in the business to promote a trusting and creative working environment.

  • Join and contribute to weekly review and planning meetings.

  • Providing regular updates on the progress of your development work streams and releases.

  • An openness to receiving feedback on your performance, approach and development and use this to support your continuous professional development.

About the team you’ll join

To complement our empowered culture, the team will actively look to share best practices, coach and mentor you to help in your personal development. You’ll be able to draw on their many years of development, through multiple development languages and delivery methods.

The team you'll be working with believes in the benefits of working in smaller, highly skilled groups who inspire and learn from each other.

They prioritise automation wherever possible, and encourage team members to take ownership and accountability for their work.

We pride ourselves on open communication and collaboration to achieve goals. Get ready to join a team that values efficiency, innovation, and autonomy.
